St. Pete Launches the Park Once Pilot Program

St. Petersburg hosts more than 1,000 annual downtown events. Many of the events feature a shuttle service provided by the St. Petersburg Trolley between designated parking locations and event locations. The Looper shuttle service has operated with a regular daily schedule.

City Invited Public Input to Discuss Downtown Parking Issues

Back in July, 2015, the City began a study of the parking challenges in the downtown area. Two public, interactive workshops were held. Residents were also invited to take an online opinion survey regarding the city’s parking challenges.

St. Petersburg’s Journey of Water

Florida entered the reclaimed water arena with the construction of the Tallahassee Reclaimed Water Farm in 1966. In l977, the city of St. Petersburg build the first urban, reclaimed system in the United States.* By 1987, effluent discharge to the Tampa Bay ceased. This made the city of St. Petersburg the first major utility in the United States to achieve zero discharge of effluent to surface waters.

Florida reuses roughly half of its treated wastewater, or 725 million gallons per day – the most of any state. It has been one of the top-ten fastest-growing states over the past decade. Maintaining adequate freshwater supplies for development, consumption, and tourism is a major challenge.… Read More

St. Petersburg’s Green City Designation

St. Petersburg, Florida was the first designated green city in the United States! In December 2006, St. Petersburg was certified by the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) as a green local government designation. St. Petersburg was the first city in Florida to receive this prestigious certification!

St. Petersburg Office of Sustainability

When Mayor Rick Kriseman took office in January 2014, his revised city organizational chart included the newly created Office of Sustainability, to be directed by Michael Connors. Mr. Connors began his distinguished career in St. Petersburg, as director of engineering in 1987. He is now the director of sustainability and green initiatives and director of public works.… Read More

St. Petersburg is comprised of lots of people who care for their fellow neighbors, especially those who are over-challenged in some ways. This article highlights numerous efforts to try to ‘green’ areas that have been described as food deserts. This article will describe, in somewhat chronological order, large, small, short, and long projects that are helping to teach people how to grow healthy, nutritious foods. The article will also spotlight some of St. Petersburg neighbors who are making these good things happen.
